Guest post written by Olivia Lucie Blake.
Hi everyone, my names Olivia from Olivialucieblake.com. I’m so excited to be working with Shayla on this collaboration! We decided to create a list of 10 things we have learnt in our twenties. My 5 will be here on her blog and her 5 will be over on my blog. So be sure to check those out when you have finished reading this post!
I feel like every year I learn something new about myself, and especially since I have been in my twenties. Being in your twenties for me is really the time where you are learning to find yourself and who you are. It’s really been a time for reflection and becoming more self-aware too. We are all different and that’s what makes us who we are, so my experience of my twenties so far might be different to yours! And I think that’s the beauty of life!
BE PATIENT
It’s taken me a while to learn this one, but patience is so important. The world doesn’t revolve around you and when you want something, remember that. The saying goes “Good things come to those that wait” and that’s so true. I can’t imagine I would live a very fulfilling life if I didn’t need to earn and work hard to achieve something. There is learning in the process.
GOOD PEOPLE ARE HARD TO COME BY
I can count my true friends on one hand. In my twenties I have really learnt how to sift out the bad from the good. I realise what kind of people I want to surround myself with. The company you keep is a reflection on who you are as a person. I want to be surrounded by likeminded, kind, thoughtful people who have good morals and standards in life.
STAY TRUE TO WHO YOU ARE
As you grow and get older, you realise how much you change. If someone from my past tells me I have changed, it’s like music to my ears. “Thank you” is my reply. I want to keep changing and growing and adapting to different circumstances I find myself in. Staying true to who you are is one of my core beliefs.
EVERY FAILURE IS A LESSON LEARNT
I wasn’t sure whether to use the word failure in the subheading, but wasn’t sure what else to call it. When something doesn’t go the way you intended, use it was a lesson for the future. That way you can avoid making the same mistake twice. Sometimes it’s not even a mistake, sometimes things don’t happen how we expect them to because that just wasn’t the path you were meant to go down. And as I get older, I’m slowly realising this.
LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST
A very cliche thing to say, but so much truth behind it. Life is so short, and I don’t mean to be morbid but we don’t know how long we are going to be here on earth. Do the things you want to do now, don’t wait for a better time or when you are less busy. Make time. Especially for the people you love.Thank you so much for reading and being here! I think it’s important to be always be advancing and moving forward in life. Only look back to see how far you have come!
Please don’t forget to check out my blog where Shayla shares her 5 lessons she’s been learning in her twenties.

September 14, 2020As a woman in twenties, I agree with all of these. Especially with friends – as I grow and mature, I realize I’m having fewer people that I talk to. Most of the mare acquaintances – and I think it’s okay. Love this!

September 14, 2020Learning from failures is a big one for me. When things donβt work out sometimes there is a reason and sometimes you are just meant to learn from it. Great post and collaboration. Looking forward to reading more posts from the both of you.

September 14, 2020Love this blog, and I agree with all the points! Especially the one about patience, most the good things that have come to me in the past few years have taken hard work and patience, and if I wasn’t patient, then life would have been worse! Thanks for sharing!

September 15, 2020“Every failure is a lesson learned” is definitely a very important way to live. While experiencing making mistakes is not enjoyable, it is also beneficial because we can learn from it and it helps us improve and work on figuring out solutions for how we would handle those types of situations in the future, which also builds our problem-solving skills.
