Now, I’m no chef but I sure do love to experiment in the kitchen- and that was definitely the case when it came to making this delicious porridge for babies!
Whilst passively scrolling through Pinterest last week, a recipe for ‘Carrot cake overnight oats’ suddenly caught my attention and I couldn’t help but rush downstairs and make it for myself! Needless to say, it was absolutely DELICIOUS.
As I enjoyed my oats that next morning, whilst Maya ate her grey coloured banana porridge I had a thought; she would seriously love this if she was able to have it!
So, a few days later, I stepped into the kitchen and started concocting a baby-friendly version of that oh so delicious recipe!

Don’t worry, this recipe is quick to make and easy peasy lemon squeezy… but with carrots! lol
It is also sugar-free and packed with fruits and veggies to provide a natural sweetness that babies will love!
‘Carrot cake’ oats/cereal for babies and toddlers
Ingredients
- 1 serving of baby's regular oatmeal/cereal
- 1 handful Raisins or Mixed fruit any is fine
- 1 Carrot grated
- 1 Medium apple
- 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
- Water for cooking
Toppings
- An extra sprinkle of cinnamon
- 1 additional baby sized handful raisins
Instructions
- In a small bowl, soak your dried fruit in some hot water for up to 30 minutes
- Peel, core and chop the apple, place in a saucepan
- Peel and grate the carrot, place in saucepan
- Add a little water to the carrot and apple then turn stove on high
- Cover and simmer for around 5 minutes, or until apples are cooked through
- Add the soaked dried fruit and cinnamon then blend to desired consistency, depending on your child's age.
- Prepare baby's regular cereal/oatmeal/rice, add carrot mixture, serve with toppings and Enjoy!
Notes
- Any left over puree can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
- I mix this with my daughters multigrain porridge but the carrots can be combined with anything or even eaten alone!
- If you have the time, you could in fact make this recipe as overnight oats- for babies over 8 months. Just add the puree, oats and baby’s regular milk to a jar and leave overnight. If your baby is anything like mine, I’d recommend heating before serving!
- Apples and carrots are full of fibre!
- The carrot provides a source of Vitamin A which is good for baby’s eyes.
