With all of us being mostly restricted to the ghastly interior of our own homes 24/7, it is to be expected that we might’ve let ourselves go a little. Constant snacking, living in our Pj’s, I think it’s safe to say that we have all become modern day hermits!
But as we’re halfway through the first month of 2021, it is time to make a change, it’s time to glow up during quarantine! With all the extra time we have on our hands, why not use it to turn into the best versions of ourselves.
What Exactly Is A Glow Up?
In short, a glow up is a transformation one undergoes to improve their mental and physical state. Whether it be through skincare or daily affirmations, the end goal is to be the best version of yourself! It is typical for people to want to glow up after a breakup or any other negative experience to feel better about themselves and live a better life overall.
In this case, you may want to glow up to combat quarantine/self-isolation laziness.
Don’t worry girl, we’re all in the same boat here. But why settle for a boat when you can have a whole yacht, you could be that yacht!
Alright, before I get carried away, here is my guide on how to glow up during quarantine!
How Can I Glow Up During Quarantine?
1. Start Working Out
May favourite tip to glow up during quarantine is to exercise. Improve your fitness and get yourself in shape! There are tons of YouTube channels full of no equipment needed home workout videos and they are just waiting for you to click. As we are all pretty much locked inside, it won’t hurt to move a lil and get your blood pumping every once in a while. As a mother, I know how unquestionably difficult it can be to find time to fit in a workout but I assure you, slotting in a short video here and there will still make a big difference.
Try kick starting your morning with a 10 minute workout video to get you motivated for the day. I know that every time I exercise in the morning, I feel energised and find I’m much more productive that day.
Overtime, experiment with combining different videos and see what works for you. Before you know it, you’ll have a whole routine that you just can’t live without.

2. Establish a skincare routine
Establishing a decent skincare routine will not only allow you to glow up, but will also give your face a visible youthful glow too! It is important to cleanse, tone and moisturise to achieve that healthy look and the key here is to regularly HYDRATE!
I shared my nighttime skincare routine and it features a detailed step-by-step on how to get your skin looking like silk with very affordable products. It is very easy to see great results with ‘drugstore’ prices.
As well as this, there are different things you an do to pamper yourself and rejuvenate your skin. You can:
- Try a face mask.
- Purchase a derma-roller. (There are plenty on amazon but make sure you research on how to use them correctly)
- Shave your face with a facial razor and get rid of your peach fuzz.
These are just some things I do when I truly want to reset myself.

3. Take Care Of Your Hair
Hey you!
Yes you! It’s time to stop neglecting that bird’s nest on top of your head. As there is less reason for us to style our hair during quarantine, it has become very easy to abandon our haircare routines.
Just like our faces, especially with curly hair, our hair needs regular moisture to stay alive and flourish so that means regular deep conditioning and overall moisturisation! Also remember to detangle frequently to avoid unnecessary breakage!

4. Get Your Mind Right!
A Glow up is not only a physical transformation yet a mental one too. It is important to take care of yourself, and that means getting your mind right. Try meditating to help relax yourself or even practice daily affirmations to get rid of those negative thoughts. You’ve got this!
5. Get Your 5 a Day
I know, eating 5 portions of the healthy stuff may sound like challenge but there are ways you can make them fun and delicious. Try making a smoothie or even roasting a bunch of vegetables on one pan- they all count towards your 5 a day. We are often put off by the idea of eating raw vegetables but I assure you that they can also be delicious- I’ve had some amazing salads in my time!
6. Supplement For a New You
In early 2020, I discovered some supplements that really changed my life. Like I mentioned earlier, if you find it difficult to consume 5 portions of fruit and veg in a day, why not try a super greens supplement drink? And that’s only the beginning, there are tons of supplements out there that can help to improve your physical state (such as hair and nail growth) as well as clear your mind and have you feeling utterly rejuvenated.

Sleep deprivation is also terrible for your appearance- no one want’s eye bags! So for the ultimate glow up during quarantine, try getting at least 7 hours of sleep a day. I know it may be tough but by doing the right things and following a routine, it is very doable!

Upping your water intake is one of the best things you could do for your body when it comes to a glow up during quarantine. Did you know that the daily recommended intake for women is nearly a whole 3 litres! That’s atleast 11 glasses. Get yourself a large 2 litre bottle and challenge yourself to finish it by the end of the day!
11. Jot Your Thoughts Down In a Journal
Although most of our days are looking the same, try writing down how you feel in a notepad or even better, a Bujo.
This time can be extremely taxing on our individual mental health so journalling your thoughts can act like a way for you to vent out all the negativity in your day. That way, you have the chance to read it back and work on it!
12. Love Yourself!
And the last step to your glow up during quarantine is to love yourself!
When you love yourself, life becomes much more enjoyable. It’s an extreme confidence boost and can really change the way you see things. After all, people come and go, but you will always remain in your life! In the words of Mama Ru, “If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell are you gonna love somebody else!?
