You Are MORE Than The Numbers On The Scale

How important are the numbers on the scale?
To keep track of our fitness journeys, we often step on our scales to see how much weight we have lost, to determine how much progress we have made. But have you asked yourself, when you look down, are those numbers on the scale really important?

Our first instinct is to look at those numbers and if they go down, then that means we are doing good… right?

Listen ladies, I don’t know who needs to hear this but you see the numbers on the scale? They don’t matter!!!

Of course we may use it to track progress but hear me when I say IT DOES NOT MATTER. The scale can only tell you how much you weigh at that moment in time, nothing more, nothing less. If you have ever caught yourself feeling down because of the weight you haven’t lost or even put on, I want you to remember that…

You are more than the numbers on the scale because they:

1) Do NOT determine your worth

No matter what the numbers on the scale show, sis, you are amazing! You are amazing because you are you, not because you lost 5lbs.
From my own experience, not only did fluctuations in weight (on the scale) cause me to feel bad, but it caused me to eat bad too. I would think- well, I’m already fat so it doesn’t matter. NO NO NO

A scale cannot define you, only you can do that for yourself -love yourself. You have come so far and are not any less of a person if the numbers on the scale are not what you want to see.

2) Do NOT tell you how fit you are

The scale can’t tell you how fit you are, it can’t show you how far you’ve come. Only YOU will know that for yourself.
If you’ve been working hard, taking care of your body, every day you are stronger and your endurance is better. The scale could never show you that!

3) Do NOT Take water into account

Our body does this funny thing where it likes to hold onto water and can even increase your weight by a whole 4lbs! This could be down to the salt content in your diet or even hormones. It’s happens more often in us women than you think!

Our bodies change, sometimes they bloat, sometimes the don’t, you get the picture here. Take the numbers on the scale with a pinch of salt… a very small pinch at that lol.

4) Does NOT tell you how much muscle you have

Although there is a myth which claims muscle weighs more than fat, with regular exercise, lean muscle in fact weighs the same! The more you workout, the more muscle you build and actually end up replacing the fat in your body. If visually you can see your body becoming leaner and your muscles becoming more defined, then that’s all that matters!

Focus On Yourself, Not The Scale

Don’t let the numbers tell you who you are! Focus on you and become the best version of yourself, I tell myself that everyday.

If you think you may be weighing yourself too often, try spacing it out. If you’re weighing yourself everyday, change that to once a week. Then once you get the hang of that, change that to once a month! Or ditch the scale entirely- it’s totally up to you.

But remember that it is absolutely necessary that you don’t allow a man-made contraption to tell you your WORTH!
