As you may know, music has been a large part of my life for as long as I can remember. You can honestly never catch me going out without my earphones as I need to be listening to music at all times. Think of it as music video. Everything seems so much cooler when there’s music playing in the background. It’s something to add a little bit of fun to my day whilst my toddler kills me with stress ;____;
So I thought I’d start this new series of monthly blog posts to show ya’ll what I’ve been listening to. Honestly my music taste may be very confusing to some but I think would be a perfect opportunity for my readers to get to know me a lil bit better. This would also be a great chance for you guys to discover some new music too! So sit tight and prepare yourself for some random ass music.
My Favourite Songs of July 2020

I know, we are midway through August and I’m only writing this post now. Shayla is a busy mama, forgive me!
Honestly last month was very nostalgic for me and I was listening to a lot of early 2000’s music. After stumbling upon the recent #freebritney movement on social media and reading about it for aaaages I thought- yko what, I haven’t listened to her for a while now. Truthfully I don’t think there’s a single song of her’s that I couldn’t listen to on repeat! There you have it, I might just be a part of the Britney Army LOL.
1- Britney Spears- My Prerogative
I love the Bobby Brown original version of this song! Completely without a doubt it is one of my favourite songs. But Britney… covering one of my favourite songs? oh boy I can’t help but love this too. Water bottle in hand, I definitely have to perform every time I hear this. Have you seen the video? There’s a scene where Britney is on the bed and I think I do a pretty good job of recreating it… that’s right, all the embarrassing secrets are coming in this blog post!
2- Britney Spears- Me Against The Music ft. Madonna
When Britney said “All my people on the floor, let me see you dance”- it’s me, I’m people. Honestly this song is on my 1am dance party list as it has me up doing the whole shebang, choreo and all!
Anyone wanna collab? I’ll be Britney, you be Madonna ;).
3- Britney Spears- I’m a Slave 4 U
I think this may be one song (out of many) that I could never ever get tired of. Listening to this really threw me back to being young again, doing dance moves I had no business doing. I guess the lyrics were sort of relatable… sort of.
The music production of this song is probably the best part for me, Pharrell really did a good job!
4- t+pazolite- 毒LOCANdy
This next track is completely different to Britney so brace yourselves!
As a teen, I discovered as rhythm game called OSU. After playing for hours and hours I started to really enjoy the music and this has been something that has stayed with me up until now. I was grateful to discover the artist T+pazolite and to tell you the truth, I don’t think I’ve heard a single track of his that I have disliked.
If I’m being honest, I probably listened to this track at least 50 times! I have been recently trying to venture out into new genres of music production and this track was a style I really wanted to try and replicate!
Did you know I made music!? Be sure to check out >>My SoundCloud<<
I have to be honest, it is lacking at the moment but stay tuned for some new stuff coming soon!
5- t+pazolite- Contrapasso
I don’t have much to say about this one other than it took me back to my hardcore OSU days. I remember playing this song constantly, trying to get a perfect score but was never quite able to do it! I really should try again…
6- Halsey- Walls Could Talk
I heard this song for the first time on TikTok and instantly fell in love. I don’t even know why, but this song is perfect and not long enough! Something about this song makes me feel real badass.
I must admit, I had not heard a single Halsey song before this. I have listened to a few other of her tracks since but ‘Walls Could Talk’ is definitely the best one I’ve heard.
7- Jorja Smith – Be Honest ft. Ms Banks
This song was recommended to me on a Spotify discovery playlist and I am oh so grateful for it!
That guitar riff is constantly stuck in my head. I cannot help but come back to this song frequently as it’s way too catchy (I’m even humming it while typing this)!
I am also aware that there is an afrobeat original featuring Burna Boy. Now, I have nothing against that version, it’s great! But something about this remix *chef’s kiss*, I do indeed prefer it…sorry not sorry.
So…..
I’m pretty sure you can see this range of music doesn’t really have much in common and that’s what I love about it. Listening to the same genre can get pretty boring so it is good to switch it up a little… or a lot!
What tunes did you have on repeat last month? Be sure to let me know in the comments, I always love to know what others are listening to these days!

August 11, 2020Hey Shayla, ooh, I read about the free Britney movement too, but I did not encounter it on any of the social media platforms that I am on. I used to listen to Britney a lot, but not anymore these days. The only time that I listen to Britney is when my workout app plays her song haha! Thanks for sharing this list! 🙂

August 11, 2020Hey Ming, I think Instagram is the main platform it is trending on at the moment. Many of her fans suspect that she isn’t the one uploading to her account, it’s all pretty scary. I could imagine that her songs are great fun to workout to. You are most welcome!
