6 Ways To Relieve Stress

Writing/Journalling

So, when I’m dealing with stress, my mind is jumbled with a bunch of thoughts and concerns that I just can’t seem to let go of. That’s where the curative effects of writing/journalling come into play!

I like to vent, I like to vent a lot and I don’t always have a poor soul available to torture with my many complaints and ramblings. So what do I do? I open up my laptop and I type! Whether this be on WordPress or just my notes app, I will type away until I feel some sort of relief. Call me crazy but not only is it relaxing to sit talk to myself for a few hours- but it’s the best feeling to let it all out!
Sometimes it’s best to ramble to yourself for hours and hey, who knows, it might make quality blog post content one day!

Playing Games

If you know me, or have even read my blog, it will come at no surprise to you that I enjoy playing computer games! Playing games had been one of the ONLY ways that I used to relieve stress back in my younger days and it hasn’t let me down since. I had mentioned previously my obsession with the game OSU, but my love for games does not stop there.
Since my daughter is older now, I have had time to start playing games again and more often.

One site I have been loving to use recently is plays.org! This site is bursting with 100’s of games to choose from so I’m able to release my stresses and play until my heart’s content!
What’s even better about this website is that it’s entirely free of charge. No annoying adverts and there’s certainly no tedious sign-up process. Just type in plays.org and fulfil all of your gaming needs at once- what could be better than that!?

At the end of the day, when Maya (my daughter) is passed out and mama needs some ‘me-time”, I just open my laptop in the comfort of my own bed and play away.

One of the games I haven’t been able to get enough of these days is Tetra Blocks– a block puzzle game that put’s my brain to the test and keeps me preoccupied. I’m sure I could spend hours playing this game as it’s so addictive and I’m crazy competitive!

Even if I’m only playing for a very short moment, gaming has been the perfect way for me to escape and completely take my mind of whatever has been bothering me.
Can you beat my high score!?

Working Out

It’s true, exercising relieves stress!! Who would’ve thought; through the pain, sweat and tears eh? Ok, it’s not all that bad and working out doesn’t have to be uncomfortable at all!
Fitness has been a very big part of my life for the last few years and I couldn’t recommend it more to those dealing with stress.
For one, getting your body moving will increase the production of endorphins, and who doesn’t love a lil mood booster here and there. Exercise also acts as a distraction and by the time you have finished, you will be overwhelmed with a rewarding feeling, your stresses will be nothing but a distant memory.

Exercising doesn’t have to be seen as a chore either, sometimes it’s best to just find something you enjoy, whether it be housework or even a walk down to your local park! If I’m not dedicating my time to a full blown workout, I usually just take Maya out to the park, to see the ducks, even a little walk down to the supermarket. Once we get back home, we are both tired out but the fresh air and movement definitely does our mind and body some good.

Baking & Cooking

Something about the thought of slaving away in the kitchen whilst concocting indulgent treats for myself really gets my juices flowing! Baking can be so therapeutic (as long as the kids aren’t around) and even then, it can be pretty fun baking with the lil ones.
I love checking my recipe and sweet-tooth Pinterest boards to gather some inspiration, find something to try then just… making it.

Baking is as easy as pie if you can carryout each step with precision, after all, it really can’t go wrong if you follow the instructions correctly. (I say that, yet have still managed to experience plenty of baking fails LOL!)
What can be better than whisking all of your stresses away and enjoying a slice of cake at the end of it! Stress who? I don’t know her!

Listening/ Dancing to music

The moment I plug my earphones in and blast my favourite tunes, its almost as though I have been transported to an entirely different realm. At that moment, it’s just me and the music- nothing else matters. And this is exactly why this is on my list- it’s such a fun way to relieve stress and forget about everything for a moment.

These days, I am with Maya all day, everyday- so I don’t get much time to plug in my music and disassociate as I please. Which is why this short time at the end of the day is even more special to me!

I love to put on some music from the early 2000’s or even some K-pop and perform full blown routines until I’m exhausted. You really have to try it!

Watching Something Funny

Laughter is good for the soul, a brilliant way to release more endorphins and leaves you feeling relaxed.
One of my favourite shows to watch when I’m feeling stressed is the American version of The Office. If you haven’t watched it yet, I urge you to immediately! It has that perfect mixture of awkwardness and gut wrenching comedy that makes it so hard not to binge 10 whole episodes in one sitting.
It is very rare that I genuinely find tv shows funny but this never fails to make me laugh consistently through every single episode!

There are also several other comedies that do just the same and we all need a good ol’ laugh every once in a while.

What are your ways to relieve stress? Do we have anything in common? Let me know in the comments below, I’d love to hear from you!

  • Your list is amazing. I haven’t tried that game yet (I might do, seems fun!) I think you named it all. Those would be the exact same things I’d do to keep my mind busy or to relax. Watching something funny, exercising and writing is my top ones. I also like to play board games (always fun with the family).

This is such a great post and I got to say, I really love your blog! πŸ™‚
