'Carrot cake' oats/cereal for babies and toddlers
Carrot cake oats for babies and toddlers, a sugar-free recipe. Naturally sweetened with carrots, apples and raisins!
Course Breakfast, Dessert
- 1 serving of baby's regular oatmeal/cereal
- 1 handful Raisins or Mixed fruit any is fine
- 1 Carrot grated
- 1 Medium apple
- 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
- Water for cooking
Toppings
- An extra sprinkle of cinnamon
- 1 additional baby sized handful raisins
In a small bowl, soak your dried fruit in some hot water for up to 30 minutes
Peel, core and chop the apple, place in a saucepan
Peel and grate the carrot, place in saucepan
Add a little water to the carrot and apple then turn stove on high
Cover and simmer for around 5 minutes, or until apples are cooked through
Add the soaked dried fruit and cinnamon then blend to desired consistency, depending on your child's age.
Prepare baby's regular cereal/oatmeal/rice, add carrot mixture, serve with toppings and Enjoy!
- Any left over puree can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
- I mix this with my daughters multigrain porridge but the carrots can be combined with anything or even eaten alone!
- If you have the time, you could in fact make this recipe as overnight oats- for babies over 8 months. Just add the puree, oats and baby's regular milk to a jar and leave overnight. If your baby is anything like mine, I'd recommend heating before serving!
- Apples and carrots are full of fibre!
- The carrot provides a source of Vitamin A which is good for baby's eyes.
